I Hope You Like Yahtzee… I am new to the Catan series of games. My wife and I recently purchased the two-player version of Catan – Catan The Settlers Card Game. We really enjoyed it because it never felt like an attack-based competition. When I read on the box that this version of Catan supported one-person play, I picked it up with the interest of something to help pull me away from video games from time to time. After a very brief and simple read through the instructions, I realized that there is no challenge to the one-person player. There is no “win or lose” condition. Why the box reads “1-4 players” is beyond me.The game itself plays very much like Yahtzee. Instead of full houses or straights to match, there are things to build, such as roads, settlements, knights, and cities. By matching the resources – represented by an icon – on the score card to icons on the dice, you can build as many items per turn as your dice allow. Fun game I recommend this game. It is easy for children to play and takes very little time to learn. We like to take games with us when we travel and this dice version of the Catan line is good to take because of its compact size and short game length. (We store the original board game Settler’s of Catan with all of its expansions in a large tool box, so it doesn’t go on trips very often!) It is not a trading game like the original board game, but a press-your-luck game with the same theme. In this version, you can not effect the other players as in the board game, so it is not as interactive. You don’t need to have played the original Settler’s of Catan board game to enjoy this one, but having done so will help you to understand where the theme comes from.

Our family loves to play this simple version of the Catan game. We purchased it since it could be played with only 2 players. It’s an easy travel game too.
